Digital preservation chatterbox game.
'Who needs Digital Preservation?' chatterbox game.

Your friendly local Regional Impact Committee, in collaboration with the Australasia Preserves community of practice, are excited to invite you to the launch of our “Who needs Digital Preservation?” advocacy resources at iPRES Te-Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.

Designed to be approachable and informative for people who have never considered digital preservation, the resources include one-page overviews for different audiences, and a fun paper chatterbox game. We hope that you will use these to engage with your friends, whānau (family), communities, and your workplaces! That way, we can share our digital preservation passion with everyone!

Our uniting theme is Who needs Digital Preservation? Our first batch includes:

We've also created a poster that you can put up in your workplaces and communities to direct people to Australasia Preserves and a tagged list of links that will take you to further digital preservation information.

We have embraced the DIY (do-it-yourself) aesthetic and all of these resources are designed to be printed on standard office printers on A4 paper. You can print an individual one-page topic, or print the suite and assemble them into your very own introduction to digital preservation zine.

Come and find us in the Rongomātāne Foyer at iPRES to check out the one-pagers in person and fold your own chatterbox game!

If you are not able to make it in person, not to worry - you can access the resources online here. We’ve made them available under a Creative Commons license (CC-BY-SA) so that you can take these and run with them. Please feel free to translate ours, create your own versions, and add to the suite!

In a true collaborative effort, these resources were developed by members of the 2025 iPRES Regional Impact Committee alongside staff and cadets at the National Archives of Australia and are hosted by our awesome regional digital preservation community of practice - Australasia Preserves. Thank you to everyone involved!

And fresh from iPRES2025, we're planning to carry the spark forward! The Regional Impact Committee has set strong momentum in motion, and with a refreshed Australasia Preserves community of practice we're excited to keep sharing, connecting, and strengthening digital preservation practice across our region.

Make sure to sign up to the Australasia Preserves Google Group to keep in the loop!
